Go in the morning — 7–10 AM is freshest, coolest, and quietest. Sunday is the most popular day if you want a bustling, energetic market.
Metro line A → Cisneros station, then a 5-minute walk. Or line A → San Antonio, 10-minute walk through La Candelaria.
From El Poblado ~15–25 min, ~20–30k COP. Tell the driver "Plaza Minorista, entrada por calle 55".
Keep phone in front pocket, leave the fancy camera at home, and stick to daylight hours. The market itself is busy and safe; the surrounding blocks are rougher.

Buy a little, taste a lot
Instead of asking for a free sample, buy one piece or a small handful (500–2,000 COP). Vendors are happy to slice and share once you've paid something small — it's the friendliest way to try 5–10 fruits in one visit.
Weight vs. unit
Cheap staples sold per libra (500 g) or per kilo. Premium fruit sold per unidad or by the tray. When in doubt: «¿A cómo la libra?»
Cash only
Small stalls take cash only; some larger ones take Nequi. Bring small bills.
Gentle haggling
Prices are already fair. Smile and try «¿y me hace una rebajita?» when buying more than a kilo. Aggressive haggling for 500 pesos is bad form.
Ordering juice
Name the fruit, then the base: «Un jugo de lulo en leche, porfa». Sugar is assumed — say «sin azúcar» or «poquita azúcar» early.
Ask for ripeness
«¿Está maduro?» or better, «¿Para comer hoy?» — vendors take pride in picking the right fruit for the right day.
